314 million Ft to subsidise pilgrimage sites that visitors are already choosing
Religious tourism subsidies fund marketing and promotion for pilgrimage and heritage destinations — sites that draw visitors can fund themselves from those visitors; sites that do not are not made viable by a promotional budget.
About 79 Ft per taxpayer per year — industrial policy for religious-heritage destinations wearing a heritage label.
Amit látsz — és amit nem
The seen: promotional support for pilgrimage routes, religious heritage sites, and church tourism destinations that attract visitors. The unseen: the wage-earner whose tax subsidises a traveller's choice — a destination the traveller would voluntarily pay to visit, now partly funded by people who will never go and were not asked.
Ellenvetés
"Religious heritage attracts tourists and generates economic activity — promotional support is standard in the tourism sector."
Válasz
A destination that generates economic activity from visitors generates its own revenue from those visitors. The question is not whether religious tourism has value — it clearly does, or tourists would not go — but whether the state can calculate the optimal level of 'religious tourism' independently of what travellers choose. It cannot. The 314 million Ft promotional budget does not make non-viable sites viable; it subsidises the marketing of sites that would attract visitors without it.
Share if you think pilgrimage sites that attract visitors should fund their own marketing.

Indoklás
Subsidising religious tourism is industrial policy wearing a heritage label. Pilgrimage sites and religious-heritage destinations that draw visitors generate their own revenue from those visitors; sites that do not draw visitors are not made viable by a marketing subsidy. The state cannot calculate the optimal level of "religious tourism" because there is no such optimum independent of what travellers voluntarily choose to visit and pay for. The line is small, and its size is not the point — it is a clean Immediate Cut on principle.
